Maths is Inspirational

Recently students from Bebington High Sports College enjoyed two exciting Maths days.

On 28th February, Ten ‘AS’ Maths students from the school visited ‘Maths Inspirations’ at St Georges Hall in Liverpool. The aim of the visit was to show in a fun way some non-academic career paths involving maths.

They saw how the London Eye and fairground roller coasters were constructed and how psychology and maths interacted together as well as a magic mathematical trick.

One of the highlights of the trip was a juggler who demonstrated a method of writing down juggling patterns to the amazement of the students

On 5th March it was World Maths Day and the students were given the challenge of trying to beat the World Record for the number of mental arithmetic questions answered in one day!

The whole school took park and became very competitive answering the questions as quickly as possible. They answered 1100 questions until unfortunately the website crashed not leaving them enough time to claim the record, however two forms were given prizes for they combined efforts as were year 8 student Harriet Solheim and year 12 student Melissa Owen who were given prizes for their outstanding performance.
