Holocaust Memorial Day

Bebington High Sports College have shown their sense of duty by helping to read the statement of commitment at the Holocaust Memorial Day 2009, which marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.  Students visited the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton to listen to survivors of the Holocaust and try to relate to their experiences and honour those who died during the genocides of Second World War and unite as a community to ‘Stand up to Hatred’

Students listened with empathy to Rudi Oppenheimer who was born in Berlin but moved to Holland when German troops invaded, gaining a view of life as a Jew during WW2, especially under the Nazi rule.  The students asked questions and listened intensely to his answers, gathering a glimpse of the hatred and persecution, which we now try to avoid
