Single Day Strike Action

Dear Parent/Carer

Re: SINGLE DAY STRIKE ACTION, THURSDAY, 24 APRIL 2008

As you will be aware the National Union of Teachers have balloted for a single day strike action on 24 April 2008.  The ballot was in favour of action.

Due to Bebington High Sports College having a significant number of teachers in the NUT taking action regrettably it will not be possible for the school to remain open on that day.  My and the Governors decision has been made on the grounds of Health and Safety as we will not have enough staff on site to give adequate supervision.

Students in Year 11 and the Sixth Form will have significant units of work to do due to pending examinations and I trust they will take this opportunity to work independently.

The school will re-open as normal on Friday, 25 April 2008.

Yours sincerely

Mr B Jordan
Head Teacher

Capital of Culture 08

Students from Bebington High Sports College will be taking part along with 9 other schools on the Wirral in a spectacular Capital of Culture Event which is being held at the Anglican Cathedral, on the 9th July 2008.

26 students of Bebington High Sports College , ranging from year 9 to 11 will be showcasing their dancing talent at the Cathedral in front an audience of 1,500 people. Local Community choirs will also be taking part in the event, aiming to draw attention to the enormous range of talent available on Merseyside.

A high demand of interest is anticipated and the students have been enthusiastically rehearsing their dance routine called Adiemus, with the help of dance teachers' Ms Reynolds and Ms Sankey.

Year 11 textile students at Bebington High Sports College have also been actively designing and meticulously making the costumes for the students to wear at the event.

The students at Bebington High Sports College are really excited about the event and are thoroughly committed to helping make this great occasion a complete success whilst showing their passion and dedication for this historical event in Liverpool.

St Georges Hall Presentation on Cultural Diversity

Bebington High Sports College has been chosen as the nominated school from the Wirral to take part in a photography and film twinning project.

Schools from Croatia and India have been twinned with Bebington High Sports College to encompass three countries celebrating cultural diversity together and forging links that will help assist in the education and individual / collective development of communities around the world.

Bebington High Sports College has been working on the project with Twin Vision , an internet and multimedia technology solution provider, for over two years and two groups of Special Needs, Gifted & Talented students from the school ranging from school years 7 to 10 have been working to put together a presentation.

The Project that they have worked on is called Stop Motion Animation and although the children found it difficult at first to express themselves in front of the camera, once they were given the opportunity to develop themes and stories with models they became enthusiastic and engaged in the art of film making, creating sets and models, then producing a film and adding sound to it.

The Students at Bebington High Sports College presented their work at St Georges Hall on Friday 25 th January and the work will be on display for viewing there for the next six weeks.

CATS

Some of the leading cast members of the theatre production of 'Cats' who are opened their production in the Empire Theatre recently, agreed to come into Bebington High Sports College to do a workshop with some of our GCSE students in our dance studio. Zoe Curlett, the cousin of one of our Dance Teachers Ms Sankey played 'Jellylorum' in the show and she came in with two other cast members Lorraine Chappell who plays 'Bombalurina' & Luke Jackson who plays 'Macavity' on 6th November.

The day started with the cast members giving a warm up to pupils that they have to do themselves before shows. The cast then played games with the pupils to get them into the character of being a cat. They also brought in part of their costumes for the pupils to wear (their tails) to make the pupils feel more cat like!! Pupils then had to make up their character of a cat and dance in this way.

The pupils were then taught a section of dance form the show. It was taken from the 'Jelical Ball' scene in the musical. They were split into six groups and they all had a chance to perform for each other and be videoed. All pupils involved will be in the February Dance Show, performing this dance!

At the end of the session pupils had the opportunity to ask the cast members questions.

This was an excellent opportunity for all pupils especially 6th Form and Year 11 pupils who are currently thinking about their career paths in dance! This was great for our older pupils as it encouraged them to stay in further education.
