The S.P.E.L.L. of Money

Year 7 students at Bebington High Sports College have recently raised £204 for Mencap, during a ‘Spellathon’, which took place at the school.

Students practised over a few weeks before taking park in the ‘Spellathon’, which was aimed to raise awareness of learning disabilities whilst also helping to aid the improvement of student literacy.  They used a range of different ways to learn spellings from picture association, group and peer support and even by creating a rhyme or rap song as a way to remember the particular word, which they enjoyed.

Teacher Miss Richards said “ The students enthusiastically took part in the event and as a result their spelling has dramatically improved, so we will be definitely having another ‘Spellathon’ next year, hopefully to include more student years and aiming to raise even more money for Mencap in the process”.
